Polishes and wood treatments
Polishes typically are a mix of beeswax and turpentine. Use good quality turpentine, and never use white spirit.
Equipment
Equipment needed
- A bain marie to melt the ingredients or alternatively a small saucepan with something like this to contain the ingredients:
Basic polish
The following are from an old document written by a member back before people used computers. The handwriting is exquisite although I suspect some of our younger readers will struggle to read cursive script, so I included a modern-day transcription at the end.
Furniture polish
Place 1oz Shredded beeswax in ½ pint of Turpentine (not white spirit), in a bain marie, stir until dissolved. Pour into tins and let cool.
Shoe polish
A suitable shoe polish can be made from the above recipe by adding different pigment powders, and stirring these in while the mixture is hot.
