Preparing Honey for Show

by Dr. Eoghan Mac Giolla Coda, Beemaster

Eoghan gave us an excellent lecture on how to approach participation in the Honey Show. His main tips were:
  • Read the requirements very carefully and follow them to the letter.
  • Make sure you use the correct jar and lid, as required by the rules.
  • Warm the honey and strain it through a fine mesh (or a few layers of muslin)
  • Make sure your jars are clean and your honey is clear.
  • When entering your honey, if you're not sure, ask if your honey is dark, medium or light.
  • For beginners, participate in the novice class(es) as a way to get experience
  • If you're not confident about making your honey look good, if you have honey with a good taste, enter it into the tasting class.

But most important of all, join in!
