Parasites and the Honey bee
By Dr. Mary Coffey, Research Scientist, Teagasc
This was an excellent lecture, covering all the major diseases, parasites and pests that attack our honeybees. Mary's deep knowledge of this area is encyclopedic, and she was well able to explain what to look out for. In particular the information on statistics about diseases as an eye-opener - who knew that foulbrood was so common, and that so few beekeepers get their bees tested - fewer than 20 in Louth!

Anyway, the good news is that you can have your bees and comb tested for disease - all the details are here. And if you haven't read it before now, Mary's publication is an excellent reference for bee diseases.
