NIHBS Honey Bee & Queen Improvement Workshop

On Sunday 9th July 2023, we hosted a special event focusing on queen-rearing and bee improvement, in conjunction with NIHBS, the Native Irish Honey Bee Society, in the Kevin Griffin Apiary. Despite the dire warnings from the weather forecast, the day turned out to be gloriously sunny and warm.

There were a number of stations where various concepts were explained in depth, with Frankie talking on Apideas, Arjan on diseases, Fergal on records and colony assessment, Jim on grafting and the Ben Harden method, Brendan on the Twin Towers, and Martin on notching. And, of course, there was a NIHBS table.

Billy also spoke on the success of the Aughnagun apiary and showed the trophy won by the project.

There was a good spread of sandwiches, cakes, coffee and tea available in the newly decorated club house.
